Projects:

[ubiqx modules]
ubiqx modules
Our first Open Source project. The ubiqx modules implement simple data structures and algorithms--useful stuff that most folks either write a thousand times or never write at all. The goal of this project is to create a set of portable, easy-to-use modules that let you use these data structures in your code without worrying about wheel reinventation. These modules provide such things as binary splay trees, sparse arrays, linked lists, and suchlike.

[libcifs]
uCIFS library
uCIFS is a small but (slowly) growing set of modules that provide NBT and SMB networking support. The goal is to create a small, concise library of C functions that will allow you to create a simple SMB client, or NBT and Browse Service probes. Eventually, there might be enough there to build a lightweight SMB server.

[jCIFS] jCIFS is an SMB/CIFS client toolkit written in Java. It runs on everything from PDAs to Mainframes. It also has classes that perform NTLMSSP over HTTP authentication which, put simply, means that you can use jCIFS to provide remote authentication to Windows domains via the web.

[Samba] Samba is one if the best-known Open Source/Free Software projects in existence. There are twenty to thirty people around the world who manage the project, and crh is one of them.

Samba ships with all major Linux distributions, and also runs on FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, MacOSX, AIX, HPUX, IRIX, Solaris, and others. There is even an Amiga port of Samba (thanks, Olaf!).

Writhings:

[Implementing CIFS]
Implementing CIFS

Implementing CIFS is a complete on-line book describing the inner workings of Microsoft's CIFS filesharing protocol suite. It includes sections on NBT (NetBIOS over TCP), SMB (the Server Message Block protocol) and the Browse Service.

Oh! ...and it's also available in printed format from Prentice Hall PTR.

Presentations
Crh has been doing presentations and tutorials for a while now. Some of them are archived here, all in HTML format.

Most of these cover Samba and/or CIFS filesharing. They range from lightweight overviews to in-depth tutorials on protocol architectures.

Updates:

October 24th, 2005 We've made a small change to the ubi_trTraverse() function in the ubiqx binary tree code. It's not so much a bug fix as bug avoidance. See the download page for updated source.
August 14th, 2005 There's a Samba Team Photo from the 2005 CIFS conference available. Crh is 3rd from the left.

Conference presentation slides:

A lot of time is being spent with iSCSI these days—mostly in learn mode.

Current project status:
· jCIFS 1.2.2 is available.
· Samba 3.0.20 is available.

May 14th, 2005 We've been busy...
There's a lot of new stuff going on, but it's not on the website (yet).

Current project status:
· Samba 3.0.14a has been released.
· jCIFS 1.1.11 is available.

February, 2005 Slides from the Northland Technology Consortium and TechNorth Prep Center presentations are available.
October 22nd, 2004 Just back from our GeekCruise. The Samba / CIFS presentation slides are now available.
September 10th, 2004 Dunno how he slipped this in without my noticing, but Mike has released jCIFS version 1.0.1. He has also written a really nice snapshot history of jCIFS, which is now (at least) five years old.
August 14th, 2004
The Introductory CIFS Tutorial slides from the 2004 CIFS Conference. are online.
July 21st, 2004 UofM Inet 4011 slides:

The slides for the Inet 4011 wireless presentation are now back online.

I will be using my Penguicon2.0 slides for the July 27th Inet 4011 class.

June 6th, 2004 I've made a small fix to the ubi_BinTree module that impacts the ubi_Cache module. See the news page for more information.
April 20th, 2004
We're back from Penguicon, which was a lot of fun. Crh gave a presentation on Samba, CIFS, and the subtleties of making a good cup of tea. The room was small but crowded, and most people stayed for the entire two-hour schtick.

The presentation slides are on-line.

January 21st, 2004 TCJUG presentation slides are available on-line.
September 10th, 2003 Reviews of Implementing CIFS are starting to appear. See the news page.
January 22nd, 2003 Heh. :)
Tim was able to get ubiqx.net registered for us in addition to ubiqx.org.
Thanks, Tim!

Don't forget that we have Samba T-Shirts and Mugs from the Samba Team.
